Alainn Hovel

for Sovereign States.

This is the first structure of the clans of my nation, Alainn.

it is built mostly under the dirt, to preserve heat. The above-ground portion is the hunter's room, where they store gear for trekking in the wilderness for beasts.

The structure is actually the result of trial and error. the visible section (the entrance) is built so that wind doesn't blow into it, but that was not insulated enough to live in.

Burrowing into the ground provided warmth, but a direct tunnel let the cold, and any smaller scavengers in.

Thus, the raised tunnel was made, before it descends into the actual home.

Each home's underground area is lined with wood, and dominated by a central fire pit. They accommodate roughly four adults, but it is built for two adults and six children.

(due to the harsh nature of the land, families can expect 1/3rd of their offspring to reach adulthood.)

above the fire pit, a shaft is made to let the smoke out of the home.

Note that this is a standalone house, the Alainn nation's first village, in Forthenge, is several conjoined structures.
