Report type: Overview of Phenomena "Magic"

Magic Summary:
Magic has been defined byt the Republic as: a field of reactional energies that respond to certains sounds and motions, found around beings from certain planets.

This is not how magic works on Kistua.

Kistuan magic appears to be more akin to some sort of beneficial symbiote living within the body.  The symbiote appears to be compatible with only certain conditions in the body, something that has led to an almost magical elite.  To fully understand magic on Kistua, it should be known that these symbiotes are only capable of certain types of magic, dividing those using magic into separte categories.

It should also be noted that if a pair of different magic-using types produces offspring, they have a 50% chance of children without magic being born, and a 25% chance of either magic type appearing.

Magic is listed as follows.

Spellcaster:
The basic magic beginner.  These are hunted for often by specilized magic-users to determine what magics they possess.  It should be noted that a Dragonrider's magical ability is on par with a spellcaster.

Spellcaster-level magic are basics, involving raw magical energies.  Such magical ability can be dangerous, as arcane bolts are lethal.  Spellcaster abilities sometimes allow an elemental attack based on elemental orientation.

Mage:
Offense-based spellcaster, specialized in elemental ability.  Mages are employed as magical warriors.  The nation of Nelola maintains a great deal of battlemages.  Airships occassionally hire mages as well, although there is a danger to allowing mages to use spells on such craft.

While they are good for battle, Mages have no utility for others, so they are best employed in the military.  Mages are by far the most inventive with magics, creating artificial guardians known as elementals.

Wizard:
Specializes in defensive magic and enchantments.  Wizards are one of the most popular magic-users, as their abilities in enchanting are used by many people to improve lives.  Wizards also wield powerful arcane magic, sort of like a greatly bolstered version of what a spellcaster would use...  although their magic is more akin to reflecting attacks, or making shields.  Wizards are responsible for the creation of golems, mindless creations bent on serving the whims of their masters.

Wizards are popular in any town, even in the more technology-focused Deloth.  Wizards are by far the leas dangerous of magic-users in general, but they are no pushovers.  With many  barrier spells and enchantments, wizards are masters of attrition-based combat.

Witch:
Witches are offensive magic and curse specialists.  Contrary to popular belief, witchcraft is practicable by both genders...  however the symbiote aligned to this kind of magic seems to flourish better in females.  Witches are unusual, in that their magic appears to be more potent than others, but this is due to to the fact that witches create a sort of supplement for spells through potion-making.  Magic-wise, witches have a lot of spells that can cause a great deal of pain, from spells that make skin burn, to a magical blast of raw energy.

While they aren't as popular with the general public as wizards are, witches also enjoy employment from others.  Their array of curses includes charms, love, and luck potions, which are extremely popular with youth.  Although it's not unheard of for dragonhunters to buy several luck charms before a particularly dangerous hunt.  Despite this, witches tend to live a bit farther from the center of towns, as they are seen as somewhat scary.

Enchanter:
Dead class of magic user.  Specializes in enchantment and curses.  The entire symbiotic line was obliterated in the war between Deloth and Elidan.  All their teachings are presumably lost.

Was probably very popular, but the elves kept it from falling into human bloodlines.

Warlock:
Eldritch magic and demonology specialist.  This magic user calls forth otherworldly beings to act as their minions, and uses magic capable of driving people insane.  The warlock's magical abilities come at a cost, though.  Warlocks are a reviled type of magic-user, and forced to live on the fringes of society.  A warlock with impure intentions is liable to become corrupted by their own magic, and be devoured by the very creatures they can summon.

However, warlocks are still accepted as a useful magic class, as warlocks are the only magic-users capable of saving souls from oblivion.  In fact, if a dragon or rider loses their 'other half' (the rider or dragon,) a warlock can craft a soul gem, keeping the pair linked, alowing one to live their full lifespan without spiraling into a lethal despair.

Necromancer
Dead class of magic user.  Specializes in eldritch magic and death magic.  The entire symbiotic line was wiped out very early in history by a massive witchhunt, and all the books of their teachings were burned.

Necromancers had the ability to raise bodies from the grave, and trap souls within as unwilling servants.  Apparently they ruled over a nation early on, but they were wiped out by magicless people and other casters.  This class of magic is lost forever.  Every nation seems to have a law that will lead to execution of any new kinds of casters like this.

Overview:
The magic of Kistua is varied, but these symbiotic lines still exist.  Due to compatibility, symbiotes cannot merge to form new types of magic-user, regrettably making the enchanter and necromancer extinct.

It is curretly unknown how Kistua magic would interact with other kinds of magic (extraerrestrial, presumably) but caution is greatly advised when it comes to magic-users.

So far, only the nation of Deloth has developed two countermeasures - Sniping and artillery shelling.

Dragonriders are incapable of reaching the higher kinds of magic classification, but they can somewhat enter into a certain field.  This is known as a Dragonmage.  Orb house, of the DRA, tends to produce these.

The Janitor's report on magic and those who use it.

Created after reading the entire magic section of the library, as well as history.

Students shouldn't find this document... or the glowing panel it's hidden on, under 'intel'.

most of this is common knowledge.
